In 2012, after a decade of passing around a tattered manuscript from my typed-out polished journal posts, I published But the Greatest of These is Love. In the years since its publication, another manuscript has been brewing, more surprising and poignant than the first. I blog to share the continuing story of God’s activity in my life. I am thankful God has leaned in so close and intimately shared Himself with me. I cannot decline His invitation to share my experiences with my readers.
Soon after the first book was published, many other stories about my new son continued, indicating I would eventually write a sequel.

In November 2024, the sequel to “But the Greatest of These is Love” was finally published. A casual comment from a friend provided the perfect title for this memoir. Now, the continuation of Roma’s tale is available in print. I have endeavored to honor both Roma and God to the best of my ability. I often mention that God is the central figure in these narratives and writing them felt akin to transcribing His words. Roma belonged to God before he became our son. I am thankful for the numerous ways in which God revealed Himself to me and to many others through the adventures of my Russian son and the various individuals he introduced into our lives.
Above all, I am thankful that God would not accept my stubborn “NO” to His persistent nudge to adopt the special gift of Roma.
