Old Tbilisi, day seven

Part 14 Saturday, June 10, 2017

Continued from More of Kazbegi

Start with Part One.

We awoke back in our cozy little side street hotel in Tbilisi. Misha had said his final goodbyes the night before, as family members were now available to join us on our local tours. There were tears, but I won’t mention names. We are forever bonded with our God-given driver, tour guide, and friend. If we return to Georgia, we will welcome lead-foot Misha to drive us around again.

Our first stop was at the entrance to the Bridge of Peace, extending 492′ over the Kura River. We didn’t see it at night, or from this impressive angle, so I borrowed this from the internet, credit under photo.

Once over the bridge, a gondola lift took us up to the old parts of the city.

From the gondola
Center, the largest church in Georgia. We visited the next day.
Kartlis Deda. The statue was erected in 1958, the year Tbilisi celebrated its 1500th anniversary.
The mystery of DNA. This little nephew often reminded us of Roma.
The Tbilisi Museum
Notice the date on this goblet. 18th-17th centuries B.C. I was thankful and surprised by the English translations. No other translations were provided.
Ancient wooden wheels. I wish I had photographed the dates.
Lunch, khachapuri, a Georgian staple, cheese and egg bread. Delicious!

We were returned to our hotel in late afternoon, to fresh up and be retrieved later for dinner plans.

Roma’s youngest nephew, Liana, and Elene
Lia’s husband, Bruce, and Liana’s husband.
There were moments when this beauty reminded me so much of Roma.
Such lovely people!

I wish my camera hadn’t kept warning me that it was beyond full. I feared a total crash of all my photos. Our dining experience included live entertainment of Georgian culture, including dancers and musicians playing Georgian music. Our videos were sadly poor quality.

Scroll through some of these photos from customers on Trip Adviser. And watch a video of similar Georgian dancers. What a magical evening spent with the loveliest of people, our Georgian family.

Be blessed. Even in the pain, I feel like I have lived something Sacred.

It truly is! We found Roma’s family less than a year before he went to Heaven, and we had wanted to take him. I’m so glad we went anyway. It was a SACRED journey. I’m so joy-filled in the assurance God gives us!
